What does it take to change your mind on Obama?

advertisement

As a general question, just out of pure curiosity, I want Obama supporters to tell me what it would take from the media or from Obama or McCain or from any source to make you not want to vote for Barack Obama. I'm not talking about changing from Obama to McCain, just about dropping Obama. Let's hear it!

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It would take a credible Republican candidate.

For example you may have heard of a fellow named Ron Paul. I'd have voted for him.

LOL @ what does it take to change your mind about Obama. Is the McCain campaign so desperate, and out of ideas, that they are now having their bloggers ask Obama supporters what it would take to turn them against Obama? What would it take? Let's see. First, send the moose loon back to the frozen tundra. and the doddering old fool to anger management therapy. Then find a candidate who has integrity, who runs a smart, first class campaign, and would run the White House in the same manner. He must have some level of intelligence, at least in the triple digit IQ range, and has something more to offer than more of the same last eight years. He must be willing to talk to our enemies, and who has a plan to bring our troops home. Wait, what am I thinking, there is no such thing in the Republican party. I was describing Obama. I'll take my chances with Obama, thanks.

Fine answer, and by the way, I am no backer of McCains.  I voted absentee and wrote in Ron Paul.  As a response to you question, I don't know that there is anything about either candidate that would have made me vote for them, had I not done so by absentee ballot.  I don't think either man has what it takes to run this country in a way that I would see fit.  Niether man can do us any good with the situation we are in now. Thanks, Isabella.

Writing in Paul is throwing your vote away.

If you don't want McCain there is only one way you can vote that will have any effect.

The game is rigged - but it's the only game in town.

Look, I'm a liberal Democrat (with no problems admitting it).  Obama is pretty clearly my best fit for a candidate at this point.  For me it would take pretty overwhelming evidence that Obama had no interest in supporting any of the policies that I support.

You know in the movies or cartoons where the Big Bad Villain has the hero cornered, and spills his evil plan, how he's been fooling the rubes in the village this whole time and has no interest in really helping them?  Then, the hero reveals that he's either recorded the whole thing or hidden a microphone that's broadcast the Evil Plan of Doom?  Something like that.

Well, I don't just have to take their word.  For a liberal, only one party (in the aggregate) in this country has shown any inclination at all to support liberal policies.  That's the Democrats.  They don't always come through (they don't even often come through), but compared to the national Republicans who support the liberal position zero percent of the time, that's better than nothing.

I guarantee you I voted for Dr. Paul.  Even my girlfriend was pissed.  I cannot make myself support either of the two candiates. I think that McCain is a @!$%#ty politician who has been at it too long. I don't trust his record anymore than I trust what little record Obama has.  I don't think that either man will do what our country needs them to do.  I would rather "waste" my vote on a man who I believe would give a true effort for the good of America than vote for a man who I don't think cares much at all. Honestly.

It would take a significant shift in his policy statements and some very damning evidence that he is not capable of or intending to attempt his stated policies.  IMHO, I'm voting for Obama as much for the persons with whom he will surround himself as I am directly for him.   He has hands-down the most talented group of advisers on everything from the economy to foreign policy.

While I appreciate many tenets of libertarians, it is unrealistic to believe that Rep. Paul could be effective - at this point in history - in carrying out his stated policies.  I'm not willing to throw away my vote this year.  It's far too important to elect Obama.

Really Georgia answered it best. Its a vote for the lesser of two evils or a vote between good or bad. Absentee ballot is a coward vote because no person can tell me here that one of the candidates does not account or address a single issue affecting them over the other, NO ONE.

There you have it. A no vote is a vote against oneself, because no matter what happens good or bad you get affected and you should have a voice to say something, anything, now you threw it away for no reason. When things go bad turn out good who would you be to have an opinion or a say either for or against? When your no vote makes you logically irrelevant.

I don't think you understand what an absentee ballot is. That is when you cannot be present in your voting precint on election day and you request a sealed ballot from you county commisioner so that you may vote before the election, so that you vote is still counted. In my case I will be in college, a few hours away from my home so that I cannot vote. oing through the trouble of doing all that is patriotic, now cowardice.  I still voted for the man who I think would do the best job for the nation. By the way, in most states, there are more than just McCain and Obama on the ballot.  Learn your @!$%# before you talk out on someone.

I'm sorry boots...you may feel like Paul is the right guy...but he doesn't stand a chance in hell of winning.  Its like the poster above said.  You have to pick someone who shares atleast some of your ideas on where the country needs to go.  I find it hard to believe that there is nothing you see in either canidate that would prevent you from just throwing away your vote.  Its almost easier for me to believe that your here for the sole reason to sway voters to throw away their votes as well.  Maybe your working for the McCain camp some how.  I don't know.

        #1 If McCain would stop voting against the infants (WIC= infamil/ FAMIS=raiment & shelter/Medicaid= Healthcare/'Head-Start' =early childhood education/PELL Grants= college)

I would have voted and in fact, considered voting for the old McCain. Even now, I wouldn't vote for Obama if he changed the tone and tenor of his campaign to endorse and allow hate filled rallies that smeared and denegrated McCain's character. I just mentioned this to friends of mine this past Saturday. I don't like the ugliness. Also, I've stated many times, while I wholeheartedly at this point support Obama, right now I am so disgusted with McCain that I'm more anti-McCain than I am pro-Obama.

Some things Obama could do that would cause me to have serious doubts about voting for him:

          • He could respond to the economic crisis by first telling us that everything is just fine, and then only a short time later pretending to suspend his campaign, ostensibly going to Washington to save the country, when he was actually just trying to take credit for anything good that might chance to happen around that time.
          • He could try to distract the American people by smearing his opponent with ridiculous assertions of guilt by association so they won’t spend any time thinking about the real problems they have or having thoughtful discussions about how those problems can be solved.
          • He could choose a VP running mate that has no significant experience and no appropriate credentials for the highest office in the land.

I'm sure there are other things, I'll try to find ya some and bring'um to ya!

          Hey Helpmeunderstand1,

I just read "John McCain Plays Patriotism Card".  Great article!  You should put that on the IVG.  I had already read, commented, and voted on both of the articles you already had on the IVG.  If there were others, I am sorry I missed them.  There is a little problem that has cropped up with people posting clipped seeds that they neither wrote or seeded themselves, or even commented on.  So it is possible something you wrote got lost in the crowd of off-purpose seeds.  schnoo warned me something like this was bound to happen.

Sorry for the off topic post boots11... I hope you will leave it so Helpmeunderstand can see it.  BTW boots11, how did you like my answer (#15).

I can answer, if you don't mind.

A clipped seed is a seed that you've clipped to your private clippings (sorta like a bookmark on Newsvine, your personal column (for readers of your column to view) or to a group (for group members to view). You can do this at the top of any article or seed, by clicking on the "Clip To:" button.

                Right-o DamianKD!

It is sort of a shortcut way to copy articles and seeds.  I just learned about it myself.

For example, you don't have to re-publish an article to get it from your column to a group front page, you can just "clip" it.

I'd bolt if he selected Sarah Palin as a running mate.

I'd think about voting for McCain if a video clip of Obama engaging in leud acts with Senator Larry "Wide Stance" Craig would emerge....  Nah just kidding.
